Computer Training Resources Workshops

( H.I.T.A.R.P.) Hitslink Information Technology and Resources Project funded by the Single Regeneration Project. This project provides computing training for those living in some of the most deprived areas in Leicester. This project is housed within Hitslink, is funded on a year-by -year basis and is primarily aimed at those members of the community whose career progressions is blocked due to lack of skills.

A computer training workshop is based in a supportive environment and offers basic introductory sessions on a wide range of computing applications. There is also the opportunity to use a computer to complete a task of personal interest or to enrol on a 12 week training course entitled "Computing in Stages"

Information Services

Hitslink staff will help you to make contact with any charitable statutory or voluntary organisation which you may feel will assist you. We also keep a large variety of Welfare Benefits and Immigration forms, which are available on request. A wide range of Information Software is available, for example UK Advice Finder, Funder Finder etc.

Afrikan and Afrikan Caribbean Internet Project

The aim of this project is to use Information Technology to encourage young people to use our services and to keep young people informed on the rapid development of an information-based society. Co-operating with other projects that work directly with young Afrikan and Afrikan Caribbean people, Hitslink intends to provide access to technology to those young people who otherwise would not have access.

Statistics for year ending March 2000 (April 1999-March 2000)

  • 200 computer training sessions have taken place
  • 65 trainees have obtained non qualification training ( informal training)
    - 20 trainees have gained qualification
